Co-op placement

Many of the programs at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology allow the student to acquire practical experience in a co-op placement with a company in his or her area of study. These partnerships are extremely important to the university as well as its students.

Our placement partners often require that the university meet certain requirements to allow these relationships to continue and to grow and prosper. We in turn want to be certain that the environment for our students is safe and offers a good learning environment.

To assist in clarifying each party's intentions, the following agreement may be required:

  • To be used in longer-term, higher-risk arrangements with reporting requirements.

This template, with core basic clauses, can be altered or expanded to suit each situation. It is recommended that the Insurance Manager be contacted to assist in creating the appropriate document.

Students are often required to have Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) coverage for these placements when they are unpaid. Students working in approved, unpaid placement agencies are covered by the Ontario Ministry of Education's WSIB coverage. Forms must be filled out prior to the co-op or placement commencing.
