Plenary speakers

Qajaq Robinson is a Commissioner on the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Women and Girls. She has worked as legal counsel at the Specific Claims Tribunal, travelling to First Nations communities across Canada. In addition, Commissioner Robinson was a member of the Board of Directors of Tungasuvvingat Inuit, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing cultural and wellness programs to Inuit in Ottawa, Ontario. Her talk will explore the historical and contemporary context for violence against Indigenous people in Canada.

Maurice Tomlinson is a Jamaican attorney-at-law and senior policy analyst with the Canadian HIV/AIDS Legal Network. He works with Caribbean groups to challenge anti-gay laws and policies through litigation, report writing and police training, among other things. He will explore efforts to challenge anti-gay laws and homophobia in the Caribbean.
