Places to Grow

The Ontario government initiated the Places to Grow program as a means to plan for the inevitable growth and development within the province in a way that supports economic prosperity, protects the environment and helps communities achieve a high quality of life across the province.

The foundation of the initiative is the Places to Grow Act, 2005, which created a means for the provincial government, in discussion with local officials, stakeholders, residents and other public groups, to identify and designate growth plan areas as well as develop strategic growth plans for communities. These growth plans not only identify where and how growth should occur within a region, but also help guide government investments.
